Asia’s largest international food and beverage exhibition takes place from March 10 to 13 in Tokyo, Japan.

Tokyo, Japan, March 10, 2026. — FOODEX 2026, the largest international food and beverage exhibition in Asia, was officially inaugurated and is being held from March 10 to 13 in Tokyo, Japan.

With the aim of continuing to promote the Culture of Tequila and what Mexico’s first Appellation of Origin represents, the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT) is participating in this international event with a stand in the Mexico Pavilion. There, information is provided on the history of Tequila, its production process, and its regulation, highlighting how it has become one of the most highly regulated alcoholic beverages in the world—building consumer trust and strengthening its position in international markets.

The President of the CRT, Aurelio López Rocha, took part in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Mexico Pavilion, alongside state and federal authorities.

“We believe it is very important for our Tequila agro-industry to participate and maintain a presence, as we are Mexico’s first Appellation of Origin,” stated the President of the CRT.

Tequila continues to expand across borders, and in the Asian market, according to CRT statistics, Japan ranked eighth among the main importing countries of Tequila in 2025, with 4 million liters.

Likewise, 2.8 million liters were exported to China, while 433 thousand liters of Tequila were exported to South Korea, a country that recorded a 14.49 percent increase compared to 2024.

“It is very important for Tequila, as a Appellation of Origin, to have a presence. We hope to inspire other Mexican Designations of Origin to participate in events as important as this. There are many products—not only beverages but also agricultural products—that could be here… What you see from Mexico is only made there; it is unique, it is irreplaceable, it is only made there, and above all, it is protected by an Appellation of Origin or a Geographical Indication,” stated Aurelio López Rocha, President of the CRT.

Currently, Tequila holds international registrations in Asian countries: in China as a Certification Mark and Appellation of Origin; in Singapore as a Geographical Indication and Certification Mark; in Thailand as an Appellation of Origin; in the Philippines as a Collective Mark; in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam as a Geographical Indication; and in Hong Kong as a Certification Mark.

For the sixth consecutive year, the Agricultural Office of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development for Asia-Pacific, together with the National Agricultural Council, organized the Mexico Pavilion at FOODEX, with the aim of promoting the presence of Mexican agri-food products in Asia.

Tequila is pride, passion, and tradition that bring the world together.
