Zapopan, Jalisco, July 27, 2025 – The Government of Jalisco, through the General Strategic Coordination for Growth and Economic Development, and the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT) signed a collaboration agreement for the protection and promotion of Tequila, establishing a joint work agenda that also includes efforts to reduce tariffs imposed on this beverage in certain countries, such as India, where the import tariff is 150% ad valorem, as stated by Coordinator Mauro Garza Marín during his remarks.
“Tequila is a global hallmark that positions and defines us. We have that project with India…” … “We have a very prominent international agenda not only for the Tourism Secretariat but also for the Secretariat of Economic Development and the Secretariat of Agriculture,” emphasized the Coordinator for Growth and Economic Development, Mauro Garza Marín.
On behalf of the President of the Tequila Regulatory Council, Aurelio López Rocha, the First Vice President of the CRT Board of Directors, Alan Loredo Trueba, spoke about the daily work carried out for and on behalf of Tequila, emphasizing the importance of continuing to collaborate closely with the various secretariats that are part of the General Strategic Coordination for Growth and Economic Development.
“At the CRT, we have been working to protect Tequila for over 30 years—an effort we will strengthen with the Government of Jalisco through the signing of this agreement. We will continue safeguarding our country’s first Denomination of Origin in Mexico and the world. Additionally, we will enhance international economic promotion, attract direct economic investment, strengthen foreign trade through the promotion of Tequila culture, and advance the delivery of the Distintivo T certification.”
It is through the Professionalization of Tequila Culture that the CRT has reached more people interested in learning about Mexico’s national spirit, sharing its history, applicable regulations, and other information. Meanwhile, the Distintivo T certification is awarded by this Regulatory Council to consumption centers that, after a training and certification process, demonstrate the quality of their services related to Tequila.
Regarding the joint agenda that this Coordination and the CRT will be working on, a key highlight is Tequila’s presence at upcoming international events such as the International Tourism Fair (FITUR), to continue promoting its production and export, thereby generating greater economic impact for Jalisco.
