Tequila Agroindustry Reforests La Primavera Forest

*The trees used in this reforestation effort were grown using resources provided by this Production Chain to the Trust for the Administration of the Forest Development Program of the State of Jalisco (FIPRODEFO).

*Through these actions, the Tequila agroindustry, via the Tequila Regulatory Council, reaffirms its commitment to caring for our environment.

Zapopan, Jalisco, July 19, 2025 – As a demonstration of the tequila agroindustry’s commitment to the environment, the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT), in collaboration with the Government of the State of Jalisco—through the Ministry of Environment and Territorial Development (SEMADET) and the Public Decentralized Organization (OPD) of the Bosque La Primavera—carried out a reforestation event. The trees used in this initiative were grown using resources provided by the Agave-Tequila Production Chain to the Trust for the Administration of the Forest Development Program of the State of Jalisco (FIPRODEFO).

“For the year 2025, just over 40,000 plants are ready to be used. That is why we are here today in the Bosque de la Primavera, participating in this Reforestation Day organized by the Agave-Tequila Production Chain, with the conviction and commitment to leave a legacy for our children and future generations—because trees are the lungs of our environment, and what better way to reforest than with seedlings produced thanks to the support of the tequila agroindustry,” stated Fernando de Jesús Guerrero Vázquez, Second Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Tequila Regulatory Council.

The support for this forest production is part of an institutional cooperation scheme between the CRT and the Government of the State of Jalisco, through the Ministry of Environment and Territorial Development, contributing to the sustainability strategy of the tequila sector.

“I’m honored that the Tequila agroindustry and the Tequila Regulatory Council invited me to this noble event. I truly celebrate everything you’re doing with your sustainability agenda and strategy, because you are a model production chain. We genuinely hope that the lessons you’re learning can be shared and replicated in other productive sectors,” said Paola Bauche Petersen, Secretary of Environment and Territorial Development.

“A big thank you to the CRT, because these trees being planted today wouldn’t have been possible without the industry’s support. Over the past three years, more than 150,000 trees have been produced and already distributed across various areas of the state,” stated Jesús Cortés Aguilar, General Director of FIPRODEFO.

Members of the Agave-Tequila Production Chain, CRT collaborators and their families, as well as local authorities, participated in this reforestation event in the Bosque de la Primavera.

“Thank you all for being here. Today, we’re going to plant some babies—Chuy’s babies and the CRT’s babies—who will finally find their place and their home,” said Gabriel Vázquez Sánchez, Director of the OPD of Bosque la Primavera. “My best wish for you is that we live long enough to see these trees grow strong and tall, and that they serve to give our children, our grandchildren, and the grandchildren of our grandchildren a better planet to live on.”

To advance the sustainability agenda of the tequila agroindustry, the support and coordination with agencies such as the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) and the National Forestry Commission (CONAFOR) have also been key.

“Since 1959, Mexico has celebrated Forest Month in July with the goal of raising awareness about the importance of forest ecosystems and strengthening our collective understanding of the vital role these ecosystems play in sustaining life and providing environmental services to all human beings,” stated Marciano Valtierra Azotla, Head of the Jalisco Regional Office of CONAFOR.

During this reforestation event organized by the tequila agroindustry, 900 Pinus oocarpa trees were planted, reaffirming this Production Chain’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
