As part of the oriGIn 2025 Biennial, Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla presented the award to CRT President Aurelio López Rocha.

The CRT presented the Governor of Michoacán with its “Águila en Vuelo” (Eagle in Flight) distinction and a commemorative bottle of Tequila Lab.

Morelia, Michoacán, October 10, 2025.— As part of the activities of the oriGIn 2025 Biennial, the Government of Michoacán presented the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT) with the “Michoacán Award for National Origin Product 2025,” in recognition of the organization’s daily efforts in the protection, promotion, and regulatory oversight of Tequila—Mexico’s national pride and emblem of identity.

The award, an artisanal hammered copper piece from Santa Clara del Cobre, decorated with silver and a sash woven on a backstrap loom, set in a red cedar box from Cuanajo, Pátzcuaro, was presented by Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla to CRT President Aurelio López Rocha.

For its part, the CRT presented the Governor of Michoacán with its highest distinction, the “Águila en Vuelo” award, created by Mexican sculptor León Fernández. The piece brings together two cherished symbols of Mexico’s identity: the eagle—present throughout the nation’s history—and the agave—the plant that evokes Tequila—forming an allegory that respectfully recalls the national coat of arms and celebrates the pride, authenticity, and joy that arise when origin takes flight.

“We are very happy. I deeply appreciate the ‘Águila en Vuelo’ award, a symbol of freedom, vision, and perseverance, which the Tequila Regulatory Council has presented to us today. Thank you very much for this profound distinction we receive today,” stated Ramírez Bedolla.

He also emphasized the importance of products that hold the distinction of being a Appellation of Origin or a Geographical Indication.

“The highest recognition for a product that possesses a unique essence in its geography and in the human quality that gives it value—a distinctive value,” said the Governor of Michoacán.

During the event, the CRT also presented the Governor with a commemorative bottle of Tequila Lab, housed in an Olinalá box. This product is the result of a collaboration among 64 Tequila producers, a fusion of two Mexican Appellations of Origin that celebrate history, identity, and passion.

“We present this to you, Governor, in gratitude for the firm support your administration has given to the development of Geographical Indications and Designations of Origin in Michoacán, and for your role as a strong ally of the producer communities, of legality, and of the prestige of our protected names. Thank you for promoting the conditions that allow our Geographical Indications and Designations of Origin to flourish with clear rules, collaboration, and a forward-looking vision. May this piece serve as a testament and commitment from the Tequila Regulatory Council to continue working hand in hand with Michoacán and its people,” emphasized the president of the CRT, Aurelio López Rocha.

It is worth noting that in Michoacán there are 30 municipalities that form part of the territory of the Tequila Appellation of Origin, thus consolidating its role as a key entity for Mexico’s national beverage par excellence: Tequila.
