The Tequila Regulatory Council signed a letter of intent with the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property to formalize its interest in joining the Technology and Innovation Support Centers (CATI) network.
Geneva, Switzerland, January 12, 2026. — As part of a working tour aimed at strengthening bilateral relations, representatives of the Tequila agro-industry, led by Aurelio López Rocha, President of the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT), visited the headquarters of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
During the visit, the delegation was received by Daren Tang, Director General of WIPO; Marco Alemán, Assistant Director General; and Alexandra Grazioli, Director of the Lisbon Registry.
A working meeting was held, attended also by Ambassador Francisca Elizabeth Méndez Escobar, Head of the Permanent Mission of Mexico to the United Nations and other International Organizations based in Geneva, Switzerland, as well as representatives of the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI). During the meeting, the importance of intellectual property as a key tool for development, innovation, and competitiveness was highlighted. Discussions also addressed the protection of the Tequila Appellation of Origin and international cooperation with other Appellations of Origin and Geographical Indications.
Within the framework of this visit, the President of the CRT, Aurelio López Rocha, and the Divisional Director for Promotion and Technological Information Services at IMPI, Dorilita Mora Jurado, signed a letter of intent to formalize the CRT’s interest in joining the Technology and Innovation Support Centers (CATI) Network.
“In this context, today a letter of intent is formalized between the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property and the CRT, which will enable the Tequila sector to access technological and scientific information in a structured manner, foster innovation, and strengthen technology transfer,” stated the President of the CRT, Aurelio López Rocha.
As a result of this visit, new lines of collaboration were opened between the CRT and WIPO. Through these actions, the Tequila Regulatory Council reaffirms its commitment to the international protection of Tequila—pride, passion, and tradition that bring the world together.
