Governor of Jalisco and CRT President Award Distintivo T to Restaurant in Spain

The Government of the State of Jalisco and the Tequila Regulatory Council recognized the restaurant “Bakan” in Madrid for promoting the Culture of Tequila.

Madrid, Spain, January 19, 2026. — During a working tour in Spain, the Governor of the State of Jalisco, Pablo Lemus Navarro, and the President of the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT), Aurelio López Rocha, presented the Distintivo T to the restaurant “Bakan,” located in the city of Madrid, in recognition of its commitment and ongoing efforts to promote the Culture of Tequila.

Tequila, Mexico’s first Appellation of Origin, continues to expand across borders. Increasingly, establishments around the world are interested in learning about and promoting its history, regulations, production process, and versatility, as is the case with several restaurants in Spain that are seeking or have obtained the Distintivo T.

During his remarks, Governor Pablo Lemus highlighted that Tequila is an essential part of Jalisco’s identity and an economic driver that generates thousands of jobs.

“Jalisco is a symbol of Mexican identity in the world. When we speak of Tequila, when we speak of mariachi, when we speak of charrería, we are speaking of symbols of our state. In other words, Jalisco is Mexico and represents the traditions of our land,” stated the Governor.

For his part, the President of the CRT, Aurelio López Rocha, expressed his appreciation for the support of the Government of Jalisco, which allows the Tequila agro-industry to continue sharing the Culture of Tequila with the world, through the CRT’s work in protecting the Appellation of Origin, as well as its authenticity and quality.

“Your support sends a clear message of commitment to an agro-industry that is part of Jalisco’s identity and, at the same time, an economic driver and a source of opportunities for thousands of families. Your support for the protection of the Designation of Origin and for a culture of quality strengthens certainty and competitiveness across the entire agave–tequila value chain,” he stated.

With the recognition granted to the restaurant Bakan, the total number of Distintivo T awards presented to establishments worldwide now reaches 138.

“This distinction celebrates your commitment to authenticity, quality, and the consumer experience. Your work goes beyond the table: in every responsible service, in every well-informed recommendation, and in every drink served with knowledge, ‘Bakan’ contributes to promoting the value of Tequila and honoring its origin. This effort has a real impact, thanks to the commitment and promotion of Tequila carried out through consumption centers such as Restaurant Bakan. In every glass of Tequila, an entire production chain is supported—one that sustains more than 100 000 families,” stated the President of the CRT, Aurelio López.

During 2025, more than 7 million liters of Tequila were exported to Spain, reaffirming its relevance in the European Union and the growing appreciation of Spanish consumers. Tequila is more than just a drink—it is pride, passion, and tradition that bring the world together.
