WHAT IS ARS?
Certification and recognition brand for farmers
As a way to recognize the farmers who have historically found in the cultivation and harvesting of agave for Tequila production their means of livelihood, and with the goal of promoting contract farming and direct linkage between farmers and Tequila companies so that the purchase of their agave takes place without intermediaries—that is, through direct marketing agreements—the foundation of the Agave Socially Responsible (ARS) Certification was established.
CERTIFICATION BRAND – ACTIONS
CNIT – CRT
Agave Socially Responsible (ARS) is one of several initiatives carried out for the benefit of the primary sector of the Agave-Tequila Productive Chain. For this reason, it is a priority to begin with the agave growers who have been, are, and will continue to be part of this agroindustry — traditional agave producers who meet all the requirements of the call for participation. This certification has no cost.
The Agave Responsible Sourcing Certification is aimed at traditional producers throughout the entire territory of the Tequila Appellation of Origin, whether they are individuals who belong to an agave growers’ association or not. When producers register in ARS, they sign a release letter authorizing that their data — such as name, location of the plot, year of planting, number of plants, and telephone number — be entered into a digital platform to foster direct relationships among producers.
Agave producers interested in registering must go to the CRT offices with their official identification, Proof of Tax Status (Constancia de Situación Fiscal), and if they are from Jalisco or Guanajuato, they must also present their ARA Compatibility Report.
Establishes a stronger link with better marketing guarantees between producers. A contract between both parties can ensure a set price schedule, secure supply within the production chain, and foster long-term collaboration among producers.
With the growing global demand for Tequila, it is a priority to develop a roadmap that maintains the sustainability of the agroindustry, preventing the overproduction of raw materials.
A digital tool where producers can offer and review the availability of raw materials, their characteristics, and the georeferencing of their plots. The platform does not display prices—commercial prices are discussed directly between producers.
To grow together, the CRT — in collaboration with universities and research centers — is committed to professionalization, providing information, data, and statistics to support informed decision-making.
The Sustainability Goals established by the United Nations present a vision in favor of our environment and its short-, medium-, and long-term viability. The actions of this certification brand align with these global objectives.
A certification brand developed by the CRT and the Government of the State of Jalisco that safeguards natural areas and agricultural lands by generating compatibility maps for the various activities corresponding to each soil type. This tool protects our environment and strengthens the entire productive chain.
